Ross Owen is a multi-instrumentalist from Navesink, on the Jersey shore. Music has always been a huge part of Ross’s life; where he started playing guitar at just 3 years old. Ross began recording Sylvænus in his home studio, ‘Avenue B’ when he was 14 and released the record in January 2018 at age 16.
“Sylvænus” was inspired as an adaptation of the mythical roman god of the forest. Navesink is home to Hartshorne Woods which is literally on Ross’s doorstep. Many of the songs were inspired there and are about places in the woods, such as the self named ‘Devil’s Punchbowl’ and ‘Woods Run’, which both give a great sampling of the record. Ross plays all instruments and is influenced by artists such as Little Feat and Steely Dan. Last but by far least is the song ‘War Cry’, which rounds out an album of truly great music.
